Repair Those Leaks!

- Compliments of EcoUtilities

Even tiny leaks can increase your water bill by hundreds of dollars. Check for these common culprits to avoid a time-consuming catastrophe in the future:

TOILET. Rubber flappers decay or attract minerals over time. Replacing them costs less than $10. Simply shut off the water supply, flush, remove the old flapper, and attach the replacement flapper.

FAUCETS. Worn or damaged washer, seals, and O-rings often cause leaky faucets. The remedy? Shut off the water, disassemble the faucet, and replace the faulty part.

PLUMBING SUPPLY SHUTOFF VALVE. To stop leaks between the water supply line and shutoff valve, slowly tighten the packing nut on the valve stem 1/8 of a turn clockwise with groove-joint pliers so it's snug.

To solve this problem, start by filing the top surface of your tool rest straight and true….eliminating all nicks and gouges along the way. Next, use a fairly coarse sharpening stone to slightly round-over the two back 90o corner edges that will be riding against the rest during cutting.
