Switching Gears-Cold WEATHER TIRE PRESSURE is something those of us in cold weather climates cannot ignore. Cold weather will reduce the pressure in your tires often by five or ten PSI. Cold weather causes the air in your tires to contract thus reducing the tire pressure. We just checked two cars and found one car to be ten pounds low per tire and the other to be between five and seven pounds low. Tire pressure gauges are inexpensive and are a must for drivers. They fit in you glove box and checking your tires takes just a few minutes. Your car, truck, SUV or whatever you drive is worth it--it checking your tires is fast and easy. Proper tire pressure saves wear and tear on your tires, helps you get better gas mileage and gives you better stability control when behind the wheel. Give your self a present and a little air as well. I actually keep a small electric tire pump in my trunk. It plugs into most power sources in your car--these are not expensive and will work on bikes and all of the other things you have around your home or garage. The correct pressure in your tires also reduces the damage potholes can inflict on the tire as well. You have more air space to protect the tire and wheel. Tire pressure is reduced when cold air contracts the air molecules in the tire. Happy and safe motoring.
